Dame Rosanne Meo has been a director and Chairman of Briscoe Group Limited since May 2001. She also chairs the Group’s Human Resources Committee.

Rosanne is Chairman of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, The Real Estate Institute and AMP Services (NZ). She is also a director of Overland Footwear and a Trustee of the Kelliher Trust and the South Auckland Health Foundation.

In the 2012 New Year Honours List Rosanne became a Dame for services to business.

Rod Duke

Rod Duke has spent all his working life in the retail sector. After leaving school in Adelaide, he commenced work with retailers in South Australia before moving to Waltons in Sydney in 1980. From 1981 to 1988 he held the positions of New South Wales Manager of Homecraft / Eric Anderson Stores, a senior merchandise executive for Grace Brothers then Managing Director of Norman Ross.

In September 1988, Rod was appointed Managing Director of Briscoes (New Zealand) Limited, at that time a subsidiary of Hagemeyer of the Netherlands, with a mandate of returning the company to profitability and preparing it for sale. In January 1990, Rod reached agreement for the RA Duke Trust to purchase 100% of the shares of Briscoes.

In 1996 Rod established, and in subsequent years expanded, the Rebel Sport chain of sporting goods stores in New Zealand as a business within the Briscoe Group.

Briscoe Group issued shares to the public in 2001 and listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange. The RA Duke Trust continues as the Group’s majority shareholder.

Mary Devine

Mary Devine joined the Briscoe Group Board in August 2013.

Mary has extensive experience in corporate strategy, brand marketing and multi-channel retailing having had a 20-year career in managing director and executive roles in private New Zealand companies. A former chief executive of multi-channel retailer EziBuy and women’s clothing retailer Max Fashions.

She holds other directorships with Meridian Energy, Top Retail Group and IAG New Zealand and is also involved with not-for-profit organisations, New Zealand Global Women (NZGW) and the New Zealand Hockey Foundation.

In the 2013 New Year’s Honours List, Mary was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) for services to business.

Tony Batterton

Tony joined the Briscoe Group Board in June 2016. He has more than 20 years private equity and investment banking experience in New Zealand with Evergreen Partners and Direct Capital, and in London with HSBC Investment Bank. Prior to this he qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse.

In addition to his role as Independent Director of Briscoe Group, Tony is currently a Partner and Executive Director of Evergreen Partners and a Non-Executive Director of various Direct Capital entities, forestry services manager PF Olsen and commercial property investor George H Investments.

Andy Coupe

Andy Coupe joined the Briscoe Group Board in October 2016.

Andy is a professional director who has had more than 30 years’ experience in investment banking. As well as Board directorships with Farmright Ltd (which he Chairs), Gentrack Group Ltd, Kingfish Ltd, Barramundi Ltd, and Marlin Global Ltd, he is Chair of the New Zealand Takeovers Panel.

In addition, Andy is a director of Solid Energy New Zealand Ltd and was appointed Chair by the Crown in 2015 to lead the Board through the restructuring that led to a Deed of Company Arrangement and the current divestment process. Andy is a chartered member of the Institute of Directors.
